Bourbon War

Coming fresh off an eighth-place finish in the Preakness, Bourbon War will attempt to make amends in the “‘Test of a Champion.” The well-bred son of Tapit and graded stakes-winner My Conquestadory is a two-time winner in his eight-race career, including a first-out graduation over the main track at Aqueduct, as well as a victory against winners at Gulfstream Park. He was second in the Grade 2 Fountain of Youth at Gulfstream Park in March. Bourbon War will give trainer Mark Hennig his second career Belmont Stakes contestant, 15 years after he saddled Eddington to a fourth-place finish in 2004. He will be piloted by Hall of Famer and three-time Belmont Stakes-winner Mike Smith, who guided Justify through a memorable run in last year’s Triple Crown.
