All-Sources Wagering on Belmont Stakes Day Tops $99 Million

All-sources handle on Belmont Stakes Day at Belmont Park, which saw Creator win the 148th running of the Belmont Stakes, was $99,419,023.

On-track wagering was $11,694,847, with off-track betting totaling $87,724,126.

Total handle on the Grade 1, $1.5 million Belmont Stakes itself was $52,188,416.

Paid attendance was 60,114.

In 2013, which was the last time the Belmont Stakes was contested without at Triple Crown on the line, all-sources handle was $88,528,542, with on-track wagering of $10,769,369 and off-track betting totaling $77,759,173. Total handle on the 2013 Belmont itself was $51,872,013.

Last year, during American Pharoah's Triple Crown-winning Belmont Stakes, saw all-sources handle of $135,790,321 on the day, with on-track wagering of $16,950,758 million and off-track betting totaling $118,839,563. Wagering on the 2015 Belmont Stakes itself was $82,437,629.

The 148th running of the 'Test of the Champion,' at 1 ½ miles the last and longest leg of racing's Triple Crown, put an exclamation point on the Belmont Stakes Racing Festival, a spectacular three-day celebration serving up 19 stakes, 11 of them graded including six Grade 1 events, worth $9.6 million in purses.
