Across the Board with Andy Serling Episode 31: Kentucky Derby 145 Recap

by Najja Thompson

A special edition of the Across the Board with Andy Serling podcast features a full-field recap of the 145th running of the Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs now available for download.

Joined by David Aragona of The Daily Racing Form, the pair discuss Saturday's 'Run for the Roses' including the disqualification of Maximum Security, who was moved from first to 17th place by the stewards allowing second-place finisher Country House to be named the winner.

Serling and Aragona analyze the performances of each of the 19 starters while also looking ahead to what the outcome of the race could mean for the Preakness and the 151st running of the Grade 1, $1.5 million Belmont Stakes on June 8 at Belmont Park.

A deep dive into the Belmont’s archives, however, reveals an event with a legacy that has experienced significant changes to many of its characteristics since the inaugural edition in 1867.
